If I was interviewed by James Lipton

James Lipton is the host of Inside the Actor’s Studio.  He always has 10 questions for the celebrities on his show.  I want to be on his show and pretend to be humble…just like all the actors.

1. What is your favorite word?
Well James, I would have to say, cornucopia

2. What is your least favorite word?
No.  But who really likes to hear the word NO

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
Ha Ha Ha…What?! Um…. Let me see…I’ll go with creatively.  A great idea. I love great ideas

4. What turns you off creatively, spiritually, or emotionally?
Turns me off – well – malicious ambition.  Someone trying too hard for the wrong reasons

5. What sounds or noise do you love?
Footsteps – The sounds of heels on the tile.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
Whining. From children or adults and I hear it too often from both

7. What is your favorite curse word?
Not a word per say….well it’s not really a curse word but I like “suck it.” Not in a dirty way. *pause for laughter*

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
     A PR firm. My Own

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Serving.  I am a horrible server.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly gates?
I’m proud of you……now you can eat whatever you would like and you won’t gain an ounce.

Ah, James Lipton, I wish I had cable so I could watch more often.  Alas, I will just practice my answers and humble answers in front of the mirror.

Baby Got Back in Skinny Jeans

My wardrobe is suffering.  Horribly.  My jeans have holes, my t-shirts are looking worn, and for some reason I have recently only purchased dresses that make me look pregnant.  What is my problem? I am frustrated, irritated and ready for a shopping spree.

Two days ago, I inadvertently had a mini shopping spree.  I was looking for school clothes for my son at my neighborhood Target and while browsing the little boy section something sparkly caught my eye and I slowly raised my head.  There was the women’s section and it was calling my name.  I was drawn to it…. I heard heavenly music as I crossed the aisle.

I then proceeded to spend the next twenty minutes torturing my children by examining three different tops that were, in essence, exactly the same.  It was during this examination and loud whaling of my children that I saw the wall of jeans and I thought “Maybe….just maybe there will be jeans that will fit me perfectly.”  And then I can brag to my friends that I found the perfect pair of jeans at Target for a great price and they will all be jealous. I saw the plan in my head, it made sense, I swear….There were colors that worked and I even saw my size.  The plan was working and I headed to the dressing room!

Now, I don’t know who in the fashion world decided that Skinny Jeans were a good idea but I believe they should be tarred, feathered, and made to wear skinny jeans until the day they die, REGARDLESS of weight.  The first pair I tried on I made an audible gasp/squeek noise.  SAY WHAT?  Why did I suddenly look like I could have the leading role in Sir Mix Alot’s Baby Got Back video? I wasn’t that big five seconds ago, I SWEAR.

I ripped them off and went to the darker color that I was sure would be better.  Well, apparently my calves are the size of a small child because I couldn’t get them past my knees. Seriously?  These jeans are probably the worst idea ever.  I was so enraged that I came home to do some online research for jeans and I ran across this trend…

Maternity Skinny Jeans are a horrible trend

She is pregnant, wearing skinny jeans AND heels.  WHAT?! I don’t know about you but when I was pregnant I did not like wearing anything that really accentuated my rapidly growing body and heels…right, because that is going to happen.

The skinny jeans looked like they were spray painted on my body and the artist didn’t even do a good job. There were rolls that I have never had before.  I looked like the Michelin man on the lower half and Lord knows I am NOT going up a size. So I am going to ask, in the spirit of Paula Cole’s 1996 hit, Where have all the jeans gone?

Skinny Jeans need to be band from society

Who decided to make jeans that only fit teenage girls, supermodels, and uber thin women.  Is this the fashion industries attempt to fight obesity in America?  Make only skinny jeans and then they will have to get thinner!  Suck it fashionistas.  I want my jeans back and I don’t want those Mom jeans that come up to your belly button or have pleats.

*Sigh*

I miss you perfectly sized jeans. I miss the way you sit perfectly on my hips and hug the correct curves. I miss our wonderful relationship.  Just because the idiots in the fashion world say you aren’t cool anymore doesn’t mean that you aren’t.  Come back to us….Those Mom jeans are scaring me…..

How to make Peach Jam

How to make Peach Jam
This weekend my friend and I conquered the world of Jam.  I actually learned several tips that I know will help me in the future and I wish I knew when I first attempted Jam a few weeks ago. Armed with my phone camera I captured a few moments and I am now going to walk you through How To Make Peach Jam for newbies.
Peach Jam –
5 cups finely chopped, peeled, pitted peaches
1 cup unsweetened white grape juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 package – no sugar needed powdered pectin
Makes approximately 6 half-pints
1. Blanch whole peaches.  If you don’t know how, don’t feel bad, I didn’t either.  Have a large pot of water boiling and place the peaches in the hot water for a few minutes.  You will know the peach is finished when the skin is flimsy and is easily removed.  Place the peaches in ice cold water immedately.  The ice cold water stops the peach from cooking. Remove the peach from the ice water and remove the skin.
Blanching Peaches requires a boiling pot of water and a bowl of ice cold water. Blanching helps prepare the peaches for peach jam.
2. Once the you have a bowl of bald peaches you need to remove the pit from the fruit and chop them up.  You need five cups.  Your hands will be extremely slimy.

3. After you have finished chopping the peaches. Combine the peaches, white grape juice, lemon juice and NO sugar needed powdered in a large saucepot. Stir constantly.  Here is a little tip from me to you.  Just because the peaches have begun to boil, it does NOT mean it is finished.  The jam is finished when it coats the back of a spoon and does not slip right off.  This may take a little longer than “bringing it to a boil.” Just keep an eye on it.

Stir the peaches constantly while boiling to dissolve the no sugar added pectin. Do not be worried if you boil a little longer to get the desired consistency for Peach Jam
3. Ladel the hot jam into hot jars leaving 1/4-inch headspace.  Remove air bubbles.  Adjust the two-piece caps.  Once sealed put the jars in to a boiling water canner for 10 minutes.
When the time is finished take the jars out and wait.  Give the tops some time to “pop”.  The top of the cap will be concaved in, just like a store.  The key is patience.  I found that if they weren’t immedately down I was irritated and 10 minutes later after they cooled for a bit the tops went in.
Ball Canning Recipe - Peach Jam. Finished product.
This recipe is from the Ball Canning Book.  I felt that newbies to the hole canning thing needed a little more explanation. I know I would have appreciated it the first time I attempted jam.
Enjoy!

Angry Bird Coffee Cozy

I am a gamer.  A big one.  I typically play on the xbox but recently I was introduced to a game on my phone that I can’t get enough of….Angry Birds.

I chose to honor the game with my crochet skills.

Angry Birds Coffee Cozy - Crochet Coffee Cozy
Crazy and obsessive? Probably.  But they were so much fun to make!

Overnight Maple French Toast

I rarely make a breakfast dish that requires being made the night before.  I am usually too tired by the time I think about it and I have never found one that sounds tasty.  Well, as I was rummaging through my cookbook cabinet I ran across a series of recipes that my amazing Sister-in-Law had sent me when I had my first child.  I decided to take a risk and make her Overnight Maple French Toast.

Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 Tbls butter
10 (1″thick) slices of french bread
11/2 cups milk
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups sliced strawberries
powder sugar
1. Spray a 13 x 9 pan.  In a medium saucpan, combine brown sugar, syrup, and butter.  Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.  Boil 1 min.
2. Pour syrup mixtrure evenly in the bottom of the pan
3. Arrange the bread slices in an even layer over the syrup mixture
4. In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, vanilla and salt.  Beat with wire wisk until smooth.
5. Pour evenly over the bread in pan and COVER.  Refrigerate at least 8hrs or overnight
6. Heat oven to 350.  Uncover and bake 30-35 minutes or until lightly browned
–To server- top each serving with strawberries and sprinkle powdered sugar. Makes 5 servings
I have no idea if this recipe came from a cookbook and she just sent me a few of her favorites and frankly I don’t care. She is one of those amazing people that probably churns her own butter when she is not busy finding a cure for cancer, feeding the poor or raising her four children.
Enjoy the recipe!  Super easy and delicious!
